IMAGINATION LIBRARY IS COMING TO DAVIESS COUNTY
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is coming to Daviess County.
Imagination Library is a national initiative that places books in the hands of children from birth to age 5 at no cost to their parents. Registration for Daviess County children is underway. You may register online at www.imaginationlibrary.com . Registration brochures are available at the Green River District Health Department, Daviess County Public Library and other locations.
Studies indicate that children younger than age 5 who are read to have richer vocabularies and enjoy reading more as they grow. Reading is the basis for all learning, so providing books early on will help a child throughout his or her lifetime.
Dolly Parton developed Imagination Library in 1996 in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee. Since then, it has spread to more than 600 locations in the United States and Canada.
The Junior League of Owensboro and The Learning Community have partnered with other community groups to bring this program to Daviess County.
Organizers will announce details of the program at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Greater Owensboro Commerce Center. Anyone with an interest in the program is encouraged to attend.
